Betroot cares about sustainable development, for this reason it is committed to supporting fair trade.
Fair trade is a way of doing business that aims to keep small-scale farmers an active part of the world market and to enable consumers to make purchases that support their values.
Fair trade is a set of business practices voluntarily adopted by producers and buyers of agricultural products and handmade crafts that are designed to promote many economic, social and environmental goals.
Betroot is committed to supporting fair trade by promoting the following goals:
- Increase and stabilize the incomes of small farmers, farmworkers and artisans
- Promote safe and sustainable farming methods and working conditions
- Connect consumers and producers
- Increase consumer awareness and engagement with issues that affect producers
How does Beetroot promote these goals?
Betroot’s goal is to ensure alternative, and at the same time sustainable fashion of Swiss origin. To achieve this goal, the best solution could only be the beet, the central element of our brand.
Beets currently represent less than 0.1% of the global fiber market. Beets have a low environmental impact: they are grown with very few pesticides, synthetic fertilizers or GMO seeds, and are mainly rain-fed. Since beets are plants, they decontaminate the soil by absorbing pollutants, replenishing vital nutrients and preventing erosion.
This year, we added beets to 68 of our product styles. Our new sustainable collection is made from beets, which naturally absorb moisture, have antimicrobial properties and offer great breathability.
Where does the beet come from?
We source high-quality beets from Swiss farmers. Beetroot supports their work by promoting safe and sustainable farming methods and working conditions.
In addition, it's extremely important to us to support and give voice to their work and commitment, which is why in our new Green Magazine you can get up close and personal with our farmers' work and inspirational stories.
